Alan practices in the technology, communications, and corporate and commercial sectors.
His expertise include: (i) intellectual property, particularly copyright, trade marks, and confidential information and related employment issues; (ii) competition and consumer law and trade practices; (iii) company law, such as insolvency, shareholder remedies, director’s duties, and derivative actions; and (iv) general commercial law, such as property, leases, commercial and construction contracts, and commercial applications of equity and trusts.
Alan has advised on and appeared in many complex matters both in Australia and overseas, including in State Supreme Courts and Federal Courts, and the Doha Commercial Court. He enjoys complex and strategic problem-solving that lead to commercial outcomes and to extracting clients from their disputes as efficiently and on the best terms possible. He encourages early briefing to save time and cost and is happy to have early discussions with solicitors prior to being briefed.
Alan is a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Commercial Bar Association, and has a Master of Intellectual Property Law and is currently completing a Master of Laws both at the University of Melbourne. He is also an accredited advocacy instructor and instructs and assesses readers during the Bar Reader’s Course.
