David P Rofe

David appears in trials, appeals, and inquiries. He regularly appears in Victoria and NSW.

He is on the VLA Preferred Barrister List and he obtained his Accredited Specialisation in Criminal Law from the Law Institute of Victoria in 2020.

He accepts briefs in the following areas of law:

• criminal law (defence)
• commercial crime and corporate misconduct (defence)
• proceeds of crime
• disciplinary proceedings
• regulatory proceedings
• occupational health and safety law
• coercive examinations
• inquests, inquiries, tribunals, and commissions
• administrative law

He has appeared in a wide variety of matters, including but not limited to, homicides, trafficking (inc large commercial trafficking), large scale money laundering, offences of violence, firearm offences, kidnapping,  sex offences, and quasi-criminal proceedings.

Prior to the Bar, David began practising as a solicitor in civil litigation and criminal law in Sydney. He then joined a large criminal defence firm in NSW, finishing there as a managing solicitor. In January 2020, he moved to Melbourne and practised as the in-house counsel at a boutique criminal defence firm, where he appeared unled in trials and led in the Court of Appeal. Lastly, David practised as a Public Defender in Melbourne, where he appeared unled in trials and provided appellate advice.

He has an interest in forensic science, being a member of the Australian & New Zealand Forensic Science Society (Vic Branch).
