Mitchell practises largely in commercial, employment, estates and common law with a particular focus on:

  • general protections, workplace discrimination and underpayment claims;
  • trusts, equity, probate and Part IV proceedings; 
  • public and institutional liability; and
  • commercial disputes generally.

He also regularly acts for and advises employers in occupational health and safety matters.

He has appeared unled in both jury and judge alone trials; in the Court of Appeal; and in the Full Court of the Federal Court. 

Before coming to the Bar, he was Associate to Judge Misso at the County Court of Victoria. 

Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and was recognised as the most outstanding law graduate. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, has lectured at Victoria University and completed a Master of Laws.
