Mr Carr’s professional experience includes 15 years as a consulting engineer and over 25 years as a lawyer. Between 1980 and 1994 he worked as a geotechnical engineer with an international consulting firm, residing and working in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and PNG, as well as numerous locations in Western and Northern Australia, in the mining, natural gas, land development and construction industries. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

In 1996 he completed his articles at Clayton Utz, Melbourne, and gained experience as a solicitor at that firm, and later at his own law practice in Melbourne. During 2001 he read with Justice John Dixon and Dr Richard Manly QC, and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as a barrister in November of that year.

His practice as a barrister involves acting as an advocate in all areas of commercial law, with an emphasis on proceedings involving technical and scientific aspects, professional negligence claims, and actions for misleading and deceptive conduct under the Australian Consumer Law. He has acted as counsel in over 400 cases in VCAT, the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria, and the Victorian Court of Appeal, as well as in both domestic and international arbitrations.
