Emily comes to the Bar with over 10 years of experience as a solicitor-advocate in criminal law.  She has appeared regularly in the Magistrates’, County and Supreme Courts in plea hearings, contested committals, appeals against sentence, bail applications, and contraventions. Emily has also appeared in the County Koori Court.

Immediately prior to being called to the Bar, Emily was Associate Director of Indictable Crime at Victoria Legal Aid. She managed VLA’s indictable Crime Team and conducted complex and high-profile indictable matters involving homicide, serious driving matters, sexual offences, drugs and fraud in both state and commonwealth jurisdictions.  She also gained experience with post-sentence applications and reviews, as well as hearings related to the Crimes (Mental Impairment) Act. During her time at VLA, Emily also worked on significant law reform and policy projects and was involved in committees related to restorative justice, the Intermediaries pilot and the introduction of the County Court Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court.

Before working at Victoria Legal Aid, Emily worked as a Senior Solicitor in the Specialist Sexual Offences Unit and Regional Prosecutions section of the Office of Public Prosecutions. In that time, she managed a large and complex file load and gained particular knowledge of historical and child sex offences.  Emily has prepared many matters for trial as an instructing solicitor.

Prior to practising in criminal law, Emily was a solicitor in a family law firm, where she assisted with parenting, property and complex binding financial agreement matters.

Having lived and worked in regional Victoria, Emily is pleased to accept briefs in regional court locations.

Emily is reading with Sharon Lacy. Her senior mentors are Ian Hill KC and Ruth Shann SC.
